Drive Sober campaign nets 13 DUI arrests

During the week of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Halloween Campaign, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office made a total of 13 arrests for DUI, along with multiple other arrests and citations issued. The most recent campaign, sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, ran from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1. The goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. According to the NHTSA, almost 10,000 people die each year on the nation’s highways as a result of drunk driving.

During the Halloween campaign, the Sheriff’s Office arrested 13 people for driving under the influence. There were four arrests in the Englewood area, four arrests in the unincorporated area of Punta Gorda and five arrests in the Port Charlotte area. During this same time period, the Sheriff’s Office made 34 arrests on drug charges and issued a total of 145 citations for various charges, including 23 citations for people who were driving with a suspended driver’s license.
