PORT CHARLOTTE — Rather than putting another patch on the patchwork quilt that is the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, plans were announced Thursday for a major reconstruction with the goal of becoming a true multigenerational center.

The $15 million project would retain some portions of the Parkside-area facility — such as the theater, conference center and library building — but tear down the existing Learning Place to add a new two-story building.
