DEEP CREEK — An alcohol compliance check of six Deep Creek area businesses Tuesday evening resulted in two clerks being issued citations for selling alcoholic beverages to an underage person. Members of the Juvenile Operations Unit issued a Notice to Appear citation to Cynthia M. Carpenter, 47, of the 1000 block of Harbour Drake Drive in Punta Gorda, who was working as a clerk at the Walmart located at 375 Kings Highway. According to the report, even though she asked the underage person for their identification, she sold that person a four-pack of strawberry daiquiri wine coolers. That same evening, an underage person purchased a Four Loko alcoholic beverage from Sheri F. Williams, 43, of the 11900 block of SW Loop Terrace in Arcadia, while she was working as a clerk at the Corner Store, located at 2001 Rio de Janeiro Avenue in Deep Creek.
Both Carpenter and Williams were cited for selling an alcoholic beverage to a person under age 21. Other businesses that were checked that were in compliance were the Murphy USA Station, Discount Convenience Store, Race Trac and 7-Eleven, all in the Kings Highway–Deep Creek area. The Juvenile Operations Unit conducts such unannounced alcohol compliance checks at various times and various locations within Charlotte County.
