After flunking out of Northern Michigan University in his sophomore year in 1968, Don Rudness was classified 1-A by the draft board and sent to Vietnam.

“I arrived in South Vietnam right after Mother’s Day 1969. I was given an M-16 rifle and all my gear and assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Regiment, 4th Infantry Division,” the 65-year-old North Port man recalled.
