PUNTA GORDA — The longtime owner of a local hotel was arrested Friday by state authorities on a charge of violating a workers’ compensation stop-work order.

Keshav Patel, 56, who owns the Budget Inn-Punta Gorda at 1520 Tamiami Trail, is facing the first-degree felony for allegedly continuing operations after being ordered to stop in October by the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Workers Compensation, for not offering workers’ compensation insurance to his employees.
