Fundraiser for Crossroads

Volunteer mentors for the Crossing Guards program at the group foster home run by AMIKids Crossroads in east Punta Gorda help light birthday candles for a handfull of boys who celebrated their birthday last week.

On Thursday, volunteers will host a fundraiser atThe Orange House located at 320 Sullian Street in Punta Gorda for the organization. For ticket information, please call (941) 575-4550

Rickey, 15, smiles as he opens his presents last week at a party where he and several other teenage boys celebrated their birthdays. Rickey is one of 19 boys living at the group foster care home run by AMIKids Crossroads in east Punta Gorda. The organization this month celebrated its one-year-anniversary as a foster care facility. Before that, it had operated as a rehabilitation facility for male juvenile offenders.

Rickey is one of thousands of children in Florida’s foster care system.

For the last several years, he has bounced from foster care family to foster care family, been in countless homes, and roughly a dozen schools. His latest stop is the group foster home for boys in east Punta Gorda run by AMIKids Crossroads.
