Local woodcarver Henry Charles spends a good portion of each day in his garage workshop, carving a vast array of bird, duck, or ice-fishing decoys.

“I go out there to whittle for a while, and it brings me joy and happiness,” he said. “It’s a very peaceful thing. I lose track of time, turmoils, and troubles in life.”
