Serious foodies met at Temple Shalom in Port Charlotte one evening recently to sample some delicious homemade desserts and get a taste of author Allen Salkin’s book “From Scratch: Inside the Tumultuous Billion-dollar World of the Food Network.”
Salkin, a journalist and former reporter for the New York Times, obtained inside access to personal stories and facts about Food Network stars, executives, producers and staff. It took him three years to combine his interviews and research into a story intersecting television, big business, pop culture, food and fans.
