PUNTA GORDA — This is no joke. If you seriously want to learn more about gun safety, you can sign up for the next Civilian Gun Safety Course, which will be held next month at the Sheriff’s Office training facility.The next class is scheduled for April 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office Training Building, located at 25500 Airport Road in Punta Gorda. During the course, you will learn about the laws concerning firearms and how to safely handle your handgun. The course includes both classroom work and practical gun range experience. Completion of this gun safety course qualifies as meeting one of the requirements for obtaining a concealed weapons permit.
To apply, go to www.ccso.org/PublicInterest/cgscApplication.cfm, the Sheriff’s Office’s public website, to fill out the online registration form for the course. Further information about the course is also available there as well as a contact number if you have questions. You will receive a confirmation of your successful registration after the application process is completed. The cost of the course is $35 per person, payable by check or money order to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. You will need to bring your firearm along with 50 rounds of ammunition (no reloads). Hearing and eye protections will be provided.
