911 legacy

Amanda Goff recently completed state 911 operator training, something that became mandated after her sister — Denise Amber Lee — was murdered in 2008. The girls' father, Sgt. Rick Goff of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, is glad Amanda gets to see improvements to the 911 system firsthand.

Amanda Goff, 24, is getting the hang of things at her job as a 911 operator with the Longboat Key Police Department, where she’s been working for about six months.

She — like all 911 call-takers and dispatchers in Florida — has been required to complete 232 hours of training and pass a state test.
