MURDOCK — Friday morning, Dick Roberts went to Laishley Park in Punta Gorda to walk his loyal Shih Tzu, Lizzie — short for Elizabeth, a name lovingly borrowed from his and his wife’s mothers. Roberts has made the familiar trek throughout Lizzie’s 11 years, but on this day, he noticed something different — weeds a foot high and taller were growing across the lawn at the nearby Charlotte County Justice Center.
“The place looked terrible,” he said.
