PORT CHARLOTTE — The owner of a Port Charlotte business was arrested Friday on multiple drug charges after she allegedly sold synthetic drugs to undercover officers and a search warrant at the business uncovered multiple packages of the illegal substance. Detectives charged Carolina Bilbao Bueno, 37, of the 800 block of Riviera Lane in Port Charlotte, with three counts of sale of synthetic cannabinoids, four counts of possession of synthetic cannabinoids and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. According to reports, in May 2013 deputies made personal contact with representatives of Port Tobacco, located at 2150 Tamiami Trail, Unit 2, in Port Charlotte, to make sure owners were aware of changes in state law concerning synthetic drugs that are commonly labeled as incense, bath salts or herbal potpourri.
However, on three occasions in earlier this month, undercover detectives were able to purchase prepackaged substances from Bueno. In each of the three instances, the contents of the packages tested positive as being synthetic cannabinoids. As a result of the three undercover purchases, detectives obtained a search warrant for the business, which they served on Friday. During the search, they located 180 individual packages of synthetic cannabinoids at the business. In accordance with state law, they seized a total of almost $20,000 in cash from the business. Included in the cash seized was the $50 bill that had been used earlier that day for one of the undercover purchases. Bueno was released on a total $42,500 bond. Anyone with knowledge of illegal drug activity is asked to please call the CCSO Narcotics Unit at 941-575-2157, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
