Sales tax extension would brighten Punta Gorda

Funds from the proposed sales tax extension would be used to brighten Punta Gorda if voters approve the measure during the upcoming general election.

City leaders plan to use around $678,000 in funds generated by the penny sales tax to improve street lighting in the Sullivan and Shreve Street areas as well as the historic district and the U.S. 41 bridge approaches, said David Hilston, urban design manager for the city.
