Court officials respond to jail report

In light of a recent evaluation of Charlotte County’s justice system inspired by a rising inmate population at the jail, local court officials point out they are doing their part to help combat the issue.

“Specialty court programs — such as Felony Drug Court, Mental Health Court and expedited violation of probation dockets — have helped (to) prevent the local jail population from reaching facility capacity limits,” 20th Judicial Circuit spokeswoman Sara Miles said in a prepared statement Thursday.
