PUNTA GORDA — Anything is better than nothing — at least when it comes to passing a proposed “penny sales tax” extension that city officials now worry runs the risk of being shot down by voters in November.

At a City Council meeting Wednesday, Punta Gorda lawmakers voted unanimously to support Charlotte County’s turnaround on a controversial eight-year local-option sales-tax extension that has created much discontent among the electorate.
