‘Friendly ears’ hear it all

In the fall of 1998, the Rev. Bill Klossner was at a regional “Do The Right Thing” banquet in Fort Myers with the Punta Gorda police chief at the time, Dan Libby. While they were there, Libby got a call that a man with a gun — possibly threatening suicide — was spotted on an empty lot in Burnt Store Meadows. The chief shared with a curious Klossner exactly where the gunman was.

“It was one lot away from my house,” Klossner recalled. “And I knew my wife was at home alone.”
