Phase 2 of the city's flood mitigation project nears completion. Last week, the pedestrian and bike path along Harborwalk west re-opened to the public near a stretch of mangroves that were mistakenly cut down earlier this year.

PUNTA GORDA — After months of heavy construction that closed off parts of Gilchrist Park and Harborwalk, detoured downtown traffic and kicked up massive amounts of dust, the city’s flooding mitigation project is finally in the home stretch.

Local residents, who patiently have watched their front yards get turned into construction zones, say they are happy the work is nearing completion.
