Sales tax would fund new library

Bill and Sue Miller are avid readers who recently moved to Punta Gorda after years of vacationing in the city. One of the couple's first orders of business was to visit the library on West Henry Street — a place they plan to visit often, the couple said.

The Punta Gorda Library on West Henry Street is the second-busiest facility in Charlotte County's library network. County officials have proposed using sales-tax dollars to build a new library on city-owned land near the History Park in the city's Historic District. The new library would be bigger, and would offer more parking, as well as convenience to the Punta Gorda Pathways.
