Darlene “Darry/Dar” Ward, 63, of both Punta Gorda, Fla., and Catskill, N.Y., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the Community Hospice of Columbia Greene.
She was born in Catskill on June 24, 1950 to Helen (nee Hotz) Ward and Floyd “Bud” Ward Jr.
Darlene established careers in teaching and in business both in Syracuse, N.Y., and Punta Gorda. Her final career, which produced a lasting legacy, was the creation and management of the New Hope Natural Healing Center in Florida.
Darry’s venturesome life included many passions. Among them were sharing time with family, traveling, golfing, reading, working in her yard, and cheering on the Syracuse Orangemen and Tampa Rays. She enjoyed good wine, fine dining and special times with friends. Darry will be remembered for her strength, remarkable spirit, honesty, steadfastness, and recognition and acceptance of all.
She is survived by her father; five brothers and sisters, Sandra (Stephen) Dannenberg, Ronald (Susan) Ward, Wendy Ward, Robin (Douglas) Hieter and Raymond (Jo Ann) Ward; her beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and many dear friends and her Florida home and her Catskill home. Darry was preceded in death by her loving mother.
Per Darry’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. Celebrations of Darlene’s life will be planned for both New York and Florida. Darry’s family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Community Hospice of Columba/Greene, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
