George C. Hauck

George C. Hauck, 93, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014.

He was born March 31, 1920, in Newark, N.J., to Henry and Anna Marie (nee Kull) Hauck.

A veteran of World War II, he was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the European Theater Air Offensive over Europe. He was a prisoner of war in Barth, Germany, Stalag Luft I.

George was of the Presbyterian faith. He was active in several churches through his life, most recently First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, and was passionate in his ministry of 20 years to those incarcerated at Charlotte Correctional Institution. George was Past Commander and a 65-year member of American Legion Post 35 in Union, N.J.; a member of the Bergen County, N.J., 40 and 8, the American Ex Prisoners of War, the New Jersey Steamfitters and Plumbers Local 322, and Punta Gorda Elks Lodge 2606.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Adelaide “Rosebud” (nee Ellerman) Hauck. He also will be greatly missed by his daughters, Arlene Berry of Punta Gorda, and Gay (Bill) Grier of New Jersey; grandchildren, Eric (Stacy) Grier and Audrey Grier of New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Layla and Vaughan Grier of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews.
