William A. “Bill” Hyatt, 73, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, March 17, 2014.
He was born April 23, 1940, in Stephentown, N.Y., the son of Caleb and Clara Hyatt.
Bill earned his Associate in Applied Science Degree in Civil Technology at State University of New York at Delhi. He served for five years as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant, as a patrol plane commander. After discharge from the Navy, he then worked as a Captain for Seaboard World Airlines and Flying Tigers for 25 years. Bill was an active member of the United Methodist Church, and supervised the church’s Christmas tree charity fundraiser for many years. He was an avid boater, reader and member of Emerald Pointe Yacht Club.
Bill will be greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Patricia; son, William Hyatt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Suzanne Hyatt of Punta Gorda; brother, Caleb (Lisa) Hyatt of Weston, Fla.; sister, Melinda Hyatt of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sarah H. Reid.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda, 507 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. Inurnment will be at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
