Kenneth Paul “Kenny” Cushman, 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday April 4, 2014, at Tidewell Hospice House.

He was born to Francis and Mary (nee Nava) Cushman.

Kenny grew up in the Kingston, Mass., area. He served on the Kingston Fire Department until his retirement in 1980. Kenny was also a plumber and master pipe fitter. He moved to the Port Charlotte, Fla., area with his wife, Wendy, in the early '80s where they raised their family. He was an avid motorcycle rider for many years, traveling to every state in the continental U.S., often alone and sometimes with very special friends. Kenny was a life member of ABATE-Peace River Chapter. His Harley was his friend, therapy, and his daily enjoyment. Kenny and Cheri created wonderful moments on bike trips, riding together and side-by-side. He loved NHRA drag racing and shared many racing adventures with his cousin, Norman. The fire service never left his heart and he loved his brothers still serving. When he would hear the sirens he still called out “Go get ‘em Big Red!!”. Kenny never met a stranger and had a very large extended family of special friends. He had a very large family who loved him. Kenny’s cancer came quick. His suffering was short. Kenny always said “Ride hard, ride safe” He said “Tell them I was not wearing a helmet!”

Left behind to love and cherish memories is his wife, of 10 years, Cheri; his lovely daughter, Trisha “YaYa” Childress; his five grandchildren, Allyson, Emily, Elliott, Briggs, and Charlie Childress; his bonus daughter, Tyra McDonald; his brother, David (Judy) Cushman. Kenny was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, of 38 years, Wendy (nee Butler) Cushman; his daughter, Jill Carson; his son, Michael Cushman; his parents, Francis and Mary Cushman; and his bonus daughter, Kodi McDonald.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday May 10, 2014, at his home in Punta Gorda. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. To sign an online guestbook please vist www.icscremationandfunerals.com.
