Mary E. McPeek, 96, loving mother and grandmother, passed peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Fla., after a short illness.

She lived in Dover, N.J., until retiring in 1976, with her husband to Port Charlotte Village. Mary had worked at Warner-Chilcott Pharmaceutical Co in New Jersey until she left to be a full-time caring mother and grandmother. Traveling, reading, swimming and playing Bingo, were still some of her pleasures. Her dream was to be a dancer on stage. She was a member of Salvation Army Home League and a participating member of Life Port Church in Port Charlotte. Mary really enjoyed people, had a ready smile, and had a heart for those in need.

She is survived by her son, Clarence McPeek Jr.; daughter, Joyce McPeek Moore, both of Port Charlotte; and her devoted grandson, John C. DeYoung III, of Monrovia, Calif. Mary was preceded in death by her five siblings; and her husband of 57 years, Clarence McPeek.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Life Port Church, 390 Flamingo Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to Salvation Army Corps, 2120 Loveland Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
