Owen L. Felton, 79, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014.
He was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wis.
Owen was involved in Boy Scouts/Sea Scouts while in High School, and earned Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating from the Medical School. Owen was in the ROTC program while in college, and, upon graduation, entered the Air Force and proudly served for 10 years as a Medical officer. A poignant memory of those years was a call on Christmas Eve one year from a grateful husband, and father, recalling the lifesaving delivery of his daughter, 18 years previously. After leaving the Air Force, he was in private pathology practice at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wis., during which he also served a term as hospital Chief of Staff. In retirement, he split his time between Egg Harbor, Wis., and Punta Gorda, Fla. As an avid reader, he served on the local Friends of the Library board. He loved sailing, and was a lifetime member of the Sheboygan Yacht Club. Owen was also a member of the Elks.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith Felton; his daughter, Debra (Steve) Porter of Richmond, Va.; his son, Dr. Thomas (Tanja) Felton of Milwaukee, Wis.; his sister, Margo Connor; stepsister, Leslie (Pat) Kramer; and four grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be private, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association for research, or the Friends of the Punta Gorda Library.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bayfront Health and the local Tidewell Hospice chapter for their help and compassionate care, and is now at peace, knowing that Owen has now sailed into calmer seas and fair winds.
