Mary Alice Willis, 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, unexpectedly at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda.
She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Panama City, Fla., and moved with her family to this area in 1958.
Mary Alice and her husband, W. Richard Willis, owned and operated Willis Construction Company and Tackle Plus bait and tackle shop, until her husband’s death. Thereafter, Mary Alice worked part time for many years in the mail room of the Charlotte County Tax Collector’s Office, forming many wonderful friendships. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Her love and spirit will be missed by her children, Thomas R. Willis and Gail (Terry) Manley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; grandchildren, Kurt (Carol) Manley of Port Charlotte, Kristi (Chad) Bryan of Eustis, Fla., Jonathon Willis and Jarrett Willis of Fort Myers, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Jessica (Richie) Bigi of Ocala, Fla., Luke Bryan and Makynna Bryan of Eustis; great-great-grandchildren, Angelina Bigi, Gavin Bigi and Connor Bigi of Ocala; sisters, Annie Mae Bethea of Punta Gorda, and Carol (Pat) Gooding of Cross City, Fla.; brother, Herman (Sarah) Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, W. Richard Willis; parents, George and Nellie Clark; brothers, Edward Clark and Lloyd Clark; and sister, Inez McKinney.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. until a celebration of life service at noon Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. Burial will be at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda.
