Kenneth “Gene” E. McClain, 78, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, June 7, 2014, on his 61st wedding anniversary.

He was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., to Kenneth and Emma Francis McClain.

Gene worked for Baker Boiler & Welding and Don-Lee Heating & Cooling. He was past President and Chief Examiner of the Indiana Association of Power Engineers. Gene was a member of the Scottish Rite Cathedral and Murat Shrine, Past Master of the Millersville Masonic Lodge 125 and past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star 300. He became 1st Lieutenant in the US Power Squadrons Sail and Power Boating and his work was recognized with the cooperative Charting of Charlotte County. He enjoyed summers spent with his family and friends at Raccoon Lake and the Charlotte County waters. Gene was an avid card player and enjoyed his cars.

Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bea; children, Kevin (Susan) and Kim (John); grandchildren, Marlana McClain and Matthew (Chutima) McClain; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Larry Taylor Funeral Home.
