William “Bill” Earl Geiger, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014.
Bill was born Jan. 23, 1932, in Kokomo, Ind., into a loving family and was the youngest of six children.
As a teenager he worked at the soda fountain in his Uncles’ store. At the age of 19 he entered the U.S. Air Force. Bill was an Airman 1st class and served for 4 years during the Korean War. After returning from the Air Force he worked for General Motors Delco Electronics as a stock boy. He quickly became recognized for innovativeness, friendliness and his ability to manage situations and people. He was soon promoted to supervisor. Bill married his wife, Patti, April 15, 1978.
During his life he became a Kiwanis and served as president for several years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Kokomo, and also in Port Charlotte.
Bill loved to be around his family and friends. He was gregarious, loving and could always bring a smile to someone’s face. He liked boating and for many years cruised Lake Shafer in Indiana and the Gulf of Mexico. Bill was also an animal lover and had several special pets in his lifetime. He enjoyed sitting in his driveway waving at passersby. Many people came to know him in this way. Bill enjoyed people and he will be sorely missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Patti; daughter, Suzanne Roberts; sons, Bill Geiger, Mark Owsley and Ron (Kym) Owsley; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Florence (nee Ormsby) and Charles Geiger; sisters, Nellie Arradondo, Annabelle LaFollette and Louise Geiger; brothers, Eugene and Lewis “Junior” Geiger; and son, Dewayne Owsley.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at BPO Elks #2763, 1133 Capricorn Blvd., Deep Creek, FL 33983. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to American Diabetes Assoc, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or American Heart Assoc, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284.
