NORTH PORT — A man wanted in connection with a Friday home invasion in Putnam County, Fla., was thought to be traveling to North Port Friday morning, prompting school officials and police to put two local schools on a “code white” lockdown.
According to Sarasota County School District spokesman Gary Leatherman, North Port High and Heron Creek Middle schools were placed on the code white, which “is utilized for situations that require a limited lockdown,” according to the district. If a code white is declared, students are directed to proceed back to classrooms, where the doors will be locked but lesson plans will continue.
