ARCADIA — A local bicyclist was killed after two vehicles struck him Friday evening near Walmart on State Road 70, and one of the drivers now faces DUI charges after troopers caught up to her following the incident, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Joseph Albert Adams, 63, of Arcadia, had been trying to cross S.R. 70 at the Walmart intersection at about 7:29 p.m., when his bike entered the path of a Ford Escort driven by Lisa C. Summerlin, 32, of Clarksville, Fla., the report states. Summerlin could not avoid Adams, and reportedly hit him on the right side. Adams flew off his bike and over the Escort’s hood, landing in the middle of the road.
