PUNTA GORDA — A man who stole drugs from a nursing home where he was working was done in because of a broken brake light, according to a Punta Gorda Police report.
An officer stopped James Robert Van Vranken, 43, for the traffic violation on May 22. While the man was looking for his registration in the center console, the officer allegedly noticed a suspicious pill. A search then yielded prescription inhalers prescribed to different people, an empty Xanax package prescribed to someone else, two and a half other alprazolam pills in a bag labeled Silent Knight, and a few other kinds of pills, including oxycodone, the report states.
