Report: Woman jailed for ripping off cabbie
PORT CHARLOTTE — A 56-year-old Sarasota woman has been accused of taking a long cab ride she knew she couldn’t pay for, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s report.
Diane Marie Ellsworth on Wednesday afternoon took a Blue Bird taxi from the Days Inn in the San Carlos Park area of Fort Myers to Sunshine Villas on Gertrude Avenue in Port Charlotte — a 50-mile, $90 trip. The woman allegedly told the cab driver several times during the trip that she would pay with a credit card when they arrived at her destination, but she couldn’t come up with payment once there. The cab driver called the Sheriff’s Office.
