PORT CHARLOTTE — The Pirate bats woke up Tuesday, but couldn’t stay awake quite long enough to finish a comeback in a 9-8 loss to Manatee High School.

After being shut out in its last two games, Port Charlotte scored eight runs, including five in a big fifth inning. It might have been enough if not for a seven-run second inning by Manatee that put Port Charlotte in a big hole early.
