AVON PARK — Avon Park’s City Hall was open to the public Tuesday, literally with the front and back doors open to provide air flow due to the lack of power.
But, the Lake Placid Town Hall and Sebring City Hall were closed to the public Tuesday.
Sebring Assistant City Manager Bob Hoffman said he wasn’t sure if the Sebring City Hall would reopen today.
“We kind of follow the county’s lead in that because we found it is better if all governments are doing the same thing because it is less confusing for the folks,” he said. The county decided to close Tuesday so Sebring decided to close its offices Tuesday.
Both Avon Park and Sebring moved their Monday garbage pickup to Tuesday and the Tuesday pickup to Wednesday. The Thursday and Friday garbage pickups will be collected as usual.
Avon Park canceled the Wednesday (today) recycling pickup.
The county’s garbage pickup will resume Wednesday.
The county’s offices will remain closed Wednesday.
Hoffman noted he was extremely proud of the city’s department heads and all the city staff that has worked the storm, including the police department, the fire department and public works.
“It is a tough time for everybody right now, but everybody is pulling together and doing their jobs,” he said. “Our staff is having to work and probably having to take care of stuff at home as well, but they are putting that aside and working for the city’s residents.”
U.S. Post Office mail carriers were making residential postal deliveries Tuesday except to inaccessible areas.
The Ridgewood Drive Post Office was open Tuesday, but was not accepting packages. Prepaid packages can be dropped off, but there is no guarantee on when they will go out, according to a mail carrier.
