AVON PARK — An Avon Park man celebrating his 69th birthday was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a car while trying to cross U.S. 27 on a motorized wheelchair.
Timothy Reese was pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center after the 7:25 p.m. crash at West Hall Street.
Reese was trying to cross the highway at Hall Street and was struck by a Lexus driven by Dipakkumar Upadhyaya of Sebring. The Lexus was headed north and the crash was in the left-hand lane.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Highlands County Sheriff’s Det. Jon Wilkinson at 863-402-7462.
Scott Dressel, public information officer for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, said that he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed against Upadhyaya.
