Bulk piles of refuse, like this one, won't necessarily get collected by contract crews currently canvassing the county. The crews are collecting vegetative storm debris and construction/demolition debris. Bulk waste requires the resident to arrange a pickup directly with Waste Connections for a fee, haul it themselves or pay someone with a truck to haul it to the landfill. Tipping fees will apply with bulk garbage.

SEBRING — Residents in a rush to get storm debris to the curb by yesterday may have mixed debris and bulk garbage in a way that will keep it from being picked up.

“We’ve got a lot of big piles that are not storm debris,” said County Engineer Clinton Howerton Jr. about many of the heaps by roadways Monday morning.
