SEBRING — Something old and something new both got support from the Highlands County Tourist Development Council, especially since both last a full weekend.
The Heartland Triathlon received a $5,000 grant from the TDC to help pay for out-of-county promotion of the 13th annual summer running, swimming and biking event to be held June 2018 in downtown Sebring. Meanwhile, the Sebring Soda Festival — a new event set for April 7 at the historic Sebring Circle — has “morphed” into a two-day event, said Casey Wohl Hartt, marketing consultant for TDC. Organizers, with the addition of Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency’s sponsorship of a “Rocking ‘50s Block Party” on April 6, have now made it an overnight event that can bring in more tourist tax revenue from the local fee on short-term lodging.
