LAKE PLACID — Florida Department of Transportation has scheduled a left turn lane to be constructed beginning late summer or early fall on U.S. 27 where it intersects with East Phoenix Street on the west and crosses to McDonald’s to the east. The much-needed left turn lane is being put in because of safety and not just convenience to getting into the fast food restaurant.

FDOT spokesperson Zach Burch said the project will come in around $200,000. The engineering is expected to be about $120,000 and the construction itself is estimated at $73,000. U.S. 27 is a federal road and so the project could be funded by state or federal funds that will more than likely come from gasoline taxes, which makes up most of FDOT’s budget. When the project becomes closer, it will go out for bid, which could cause the forecasted price to go up or down.
