SEBRING — County commissioners will discuss a change in local law today to have the Florida Department of Revenue collect tourist taxes, not the local tax collector.
An ordinance on the agenda for today’s Highlands County Board of County Commission meeting states that local businesses would need to send their tourist tax collections directly to Tallahassee. From there, the Florida Department of Revenue would send back the tax revenue to the county, through the Clerk of the Courts Office, after collecting a fee.
