SEBRING — Rep. Cary Pigman, R-Avon Park, said he voted for Florida’s “School Safety Act” because it balanced student safety with Second Amendment rights.

Sen. Denise Grimsley, R-Sebring, his friend and medical profession colleague, told the Highlands News-Sun last week she voted against the bill because it didn’t address the types of problems that led to 17 people dead — 14 of them students — at last month’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
