Memorial garden rededicated at school

Kevin Leicht, an Eagle Scout candidate, refurbished and added benches to a garden created in memory of Matthew Waldrup, who died after being struck by a vehicle on March 18, 2012. Leicht, who mentored Matthew in reading, wanted to do his eagle scout project in memory and honor of Matthew.

AVON PARK β€” Over the years, Kevin Leicht never forgot the friendly kindergarten student he mentored in reading at Memorial Elementary School.

β€œHe (Matthew Waldrup) had such a loving, kind heart. He had an all-around good character,” Leicht recalled Friday.
