LAKE PLACID — Residents of Leisure Lakes and beyond will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, literally, without the heavy stench of smoke from the muck fire in the Jack’s Creek area. As of 11:10 a.m. Monday, Jack’s Wildfire is reported to be 100 percent contained, according to Melissa Yunas, wildfire mitigation specialist with the Florida Forest Service.
Smoke from the Jack’s Wildfire has clung in the air, hair and clothing. The drift smoke across U.S. 27 was blamed for causing vehicle accidents and forced highway closures.
