In the past nine years, Highlands County has had three county administrators, and it looks as though we are soon going to be searching for a fourth one.
Carl Cool served as the county’s first administrator and did so successfully for 16 years, retiring in May 2008. Michael Wright succeeded Cool, but his tenure was short-lived. After just two years, Wright was put on administrative leave when commissioners determined the direction Wright was taking was not good for the county, citing an all-time low morale of county employees and employees being directed to not speak with commissioners.
