Judge: New Stand Your Ground law doesn’t apply to 2015 murder case

SEBRING — Prosecutors won’t have to prove that Virgil Lee West wasn’t in fear for his life when in July 2015 he is alleged to have gunned down a man and a woman as they approached him in a golf cart, Circuit Judge Peter Estrada ruled recently.

Estrada ruled that the new Stand Your Ground law approved by the Florida Legislature this year doesn’t apply retroactively to the murder case involving West.
