SEBRING — Highlands County has had a year of recycling. How well it’s working is a bit of a mixed bag, in more ways than one.
Out of the total 2,401 tons of solid waste collected in 2016 — the last full year before curbside recycling — Highlands County collected 16.34 tons of aluminum cans, 49.42 tons of steel cans, 989.3 tons of cardboard, 269.1 tons of glass and 117 tons of plastic. Those numbers went down during the first full year of curbside service.
