SEBRING — As members of the Aktion Club of Highlands County dug deep into the soil, they pulled out several pounds of sweet potatoes in a garden at the Boys & Girls Club in Sebring.

The Aktion Club worked with the Highlands County Master Gardeners in maintaining 21 pots of sweet potatoes at the Boys & Girls Club. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma destroyed part of the building and caused irrigation problems. The Aktion Club continued watering the plants to keep them growing even though the Boys & Girls Club was not in operation. The Aktion Club did not want to lose their crop. They also pulled weeds around the plants.
