With the release of “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” in theaters, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit “The Force Awakens.” But since that movie is not available on Netflix, I went to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” instead.
“Rogue One” was my first review for the newspaper exactly one year ago. But does this standalone movie still hold up and make me as excited now as it did a year ago? The short answer is, yes. I’m a big fan of the gritty, war movie feel that permeates this movie throughout. There are no Jedi, and there are no lightsaber fights, save for Darth Vader wrecking shop at the end. This is a war movie about rebel soldiers fighting a losing war, all so that they can steal some battle station plans that might give them an upper hand.
