AVON PARK — The Aktion Club of Highlands County completed its Adopt-A-Child Program by delivering all the toys, bikes, clothes and food to the children and their families on Dec. 23.

The club took on 68 local needy children from the Early Steps, Family Safehouse and Special STARS programs. Members worked with Florida Hospital, Lampe & Kiefer Hearing Aid Center and Leisure Acres Mobile Home Community to gather enough items to fulfill each child’s wishes. Leisure Acres collected more than $2,000 in toys, food and cash while Florida Hospital employees and physician’s offices sponsored 24 children on the list.
