Sebring’s Phillip Sapp claimed the 172-pound title with a second-round pin of Lake Gibson’s De’yaveyun Joseph to help the Blue Streaks place fourth in the 19-team field. Avon Park was seventh and Lake Placid was 17th.

Avon Park’s Travon Spry placed third at 115 pounds, while teammate Timothy Ferreria was second at 122 and fellow Red Devil Junior Pontinela was second at 128. Sebring’s Danny Cardosa placed fourth at 128 pounds.

Sebring’s Corey Harris placed second at 184 pounds, while the Red Devils’ Javier Arrango took second at 222. The Blue Streaks’ Tyrek Richards finished second at 287 pounds.

Avon Park and Lake Placid will compete in the Class 1A-District 9 tournament on Friday in Winter Haven, while the Blue Streaks will make the trip to Venice on Saturday to compete in the Class 2A-District 10 tournament. Those wrestlers who finish in the top four at the district tournaments will advance to regionals the following week.
