A Nokomis man is facing charges of animal cruelty after deputies recovered more than a dozen dogs living in poor conditions, some in 2-foot-high homemade crates found at his residence.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Agricultural Unit and Animal Services officers began an investigation on March 6 when they were alerted to several dogs living on the property in the 300 block of Scott Street.
