“We want to prepare you, not scare you,” said Bob Harrigan, chief meteorologist for ABC 7 news. The 31-year veteran of weather predicting was a speaker at the 2017 Hurricane Expo at Venice Community Center, May 12-13.
On Saturday, he told an audience of around 70 people — of whom about half are about to experience their first hurricane season in Venice — that even though the area doesn’t get many hurricanes, it only takes one big storm to create massive damage and threaten lives.
